S. Marti 19th Century Medaille De Bronze French Antique Mantle Clock -C 1800
A stunning example of a Samuel Marti’s brilliance in clock making. This clock is desperate to run. It’s been serviced, and even the slightest nudge starts the pendulum. This begins the beautiful ticking and rich chimes only achieved by the acoustic qualities of properly selected and cured wood.
It is in magnificent condition, only one small chip in the wood on the back of the case.
Crystal has no chips. Porcelain face is absolutely beautiful!!
The company and clock maker is Samuel Marti & Cie. This movement is stamped with his signature S. Marti and “MEDAILLE DE BRONZE”. This stamp dates it between 1855 and 1889. The medal was received at the Paris Exhibition of 1855.
In 1889 Marti won the MEDAILLE d’Argent (silver) The company also received a Medaille d’Or (gold) in Paris in 1900.
The company was in business considerably longer than 80 years, and clearly was a force in the French clock horological society of the time. This clock is a fantastic example of Marti’s early works.
